Hutt City filled with activities for
Youth Week
Live like a legend will be the theme of Youth Week in Hutt City which kicks off this Saturday (5 May)
Other Youth Week highlights include free Weltec education sessions, Petone Youth Day, Free documentaries at Vibe Youth Health Centre, and a week-long calendar of events at Secret Level Youth Centre on High Street.
Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace describes the week as an opportunity to showcase the city as a great and vibrant place for young people.
“Youth Day Out in Dowse Square is set to have local bands, dance groups and a Youth Idol competition and in Wainuiomata Y-Well Youth Week will include creative art, ki o rahi, and pool and table tennis.”
“Youth Infusion, Hutt City’s Youth Council, is putting on a river clean-up and barbecue in Naenae – it is going to be a great week of activities,” says Mayor Ray Wallace.
Senior Community Development Officer, Molly Kennedy, says young people living in Naenae, Taita, Stokes Valley and Pomare will have a chance to win free tickets to the movies.
“These communities are showing they value their youth by offering spot prizes for young people between12 and 24 years showing leadership or good behaviour in their community,” she says.
A full list of Youth Week events in Hutt City is available on council’s website at www.huttcity.govt.nz/YouthWeek2013. Most activities are free. Youth Week runs from 4-12 May, and is for young people aged 12-24. The theme this year is Live Like a Legend.
