Community leader joins board of Hawke’s Bay Opera House
A new appointment to the board of the Hawke’s Bay Opera House has been announced.
Chairman John Buck has confirmed the appointment of Michael Bain as a director on the board of the Opera House for a period of 3 years from July 1st 2013.
Mr Bain is a community leader in the education sector. He has served on a number of education-related national committees and reference groups and is currently Vice President of the Hawke’s Bay Principals Association, which has a membership of 86 schools. He will become President of the association in April 2014 for a period of 2 years and is currently Principal of Te Mata School.
John Buck says “I am delighted that Michael has been appointed to the board. He will bring a strong education and community leadership focus which will complement the skills and experience of the other directors on the board.”
“Michael’s appointment also supports one of the board’s strategic priorities, which is to ensure that youth are involved and engaged with the facility. With Michael’s input, I am confident that the future of the Opera House is secure and the board will continue to show strong leadership with a high level of innovation,” Mr Buck says.

I believe that the skills that I bring to the board will advance the development of what is already an amazing community asset. The Hawke’s Bay Opera House is a nationally recognised centre for performing arts and a significant asset to the Hastings and wider community.”
John Buck retires as Chair of the Hawke’s Bay Opera House on 30 June 2013 after a very successful and long serving involvement with the entertainment and conference centre. Chris O’Reilly has been appointed as the new Chair and will take up the position on July 1st 2013.
