Summary of Council meeting
Christchurch City Council met today (Thursday 30 May), with the key decisions including:
Temporary Alcohol Ban in Riccarton Ilam
Christchurch City Council has approved a temporary alcohol ban for an area of Upper Riccarton and Ilam.
The new restriction area extends the area alcohol consumption is prohibited in Riccarton and Ilam where a permanent ban is already in place.
The temporary ban is for six months starting 10 June 2013 and covers an area bounded by Peer Street, Waimairi Road, Maidstone Road, Avonhead Road and Yaldhurst Road.
It applies until 10 December 2013 and means people can not drink in public places, or carry an open bottle or can containing alcohol in public places.
Heritage Week 2014 and
Heritage Event
The Council today agreed to re-launch Heritage Week in 2014, and instead hold a shorter Heritage weekend event later this year.
i-SITE Visitor Centre Botanic
Gardens
The Council decided to extend Christchurch and Canterbury Marketing’s temporary occupation of the i-Site Visitor Centre in the Botanic Gardens until 18 April 2016. The Council also decided to allow the extension of the temporary building by approximately 27 square metres. This is subject to an occupation agreement.
In recognition of the service provided to visitors provided by the i-SITE Visitor Centre the Council resolved not to charge a rental to Christchurch and Canterbury Marketing.
