Queen’s Birthday weekend transport update
MEDIA RELEASE
Friday 31 May
Queen’s Birthday weekend transport
update
Auckland’s rail network will be closed
this Queen’s Birthday Weekend to allow major works
associated with the ongoing upgrade of stations and
electrification of the rail network.
There are also
changes to timetables for buses and ferries on Queen’s
Birthday, Monday 3 June.
For more information about
trains, buses or ferries go to www.at.co.nz or phone 09 366
6400.
Trains
Replacement rail bus
services will be provided during the weekend and special
timetables will be in place for them. Buses will be marked
Rail Bus. All valid tickets and passes currently accepted
on trains can be used on rail bus replacements.
Works taking place in the weekend by KiwiRail include general track maintenance, overhead wire and mast installation for electric trains and graffiti removal.
At Panmure Station the northbound platform will be extended and the temporary ramp will be slightly moved to allow room for when the permanent stairs are ready, to go in. Drainage and ducts will also be laid beneath the platform surface.
Work is continuing on the pedestrian walkway at Mt Albert Station, ahead of it reopening for public use in late June.
Please be aware that there may be minor delays to services next week to allow for the weekend works to settle in.
Buses and ferries
On Monday
3 June, bus and ferry services will run to a public holiday
(Sunday) timetable.
New fares from Monday
A reminder that new fares for public
transport come into effect on Monday. For further

Auckland’s Southern Motorway
The NZ
Transport Agency (NZTA) will close the southbound on- and
off-ramp at the Papakura interchange on Auckland’s
Southern Motorway (State Highway 1) this weekend, weather
permitting.
Both ramps will be closed from 10pm Friday, 31 May until 5am Tuesday, 4 June. The closure will allow the project team to switch traffic onto the new bridge on Beach Road as part of the interchange upgrade. A detour route will be clearly signposted along Beach Road and Great South Road to the SH1 Drury southbound on-ramp, while southbound drivers wanting to leave the motorway are advised to exit at Takanini to get to Papakura and Karaka.
Drivers should also give themselves extra time for their journey so that they get to their destination on time, and safely.
