Flaxmere Library launches book club

Flaxmere Library is launching a book club for children aged 8 and over, in response to approaches from local readers.

Children’s librarian Kerry Campion says the book club will be held on the second Thursday of each month at 3.30pm, beginning on June 13th.

Kerry says “This is a great opportunity to share the love of reading with children and those who join the book club will be able to preview some of the new books that are available.”

“The book club will provide an environment where children can talk to each other about books they have enjoyed and they will be introduced to many more exciting books as their reading journey continues.”

Kerry says most children put in a lot of work learning to read, both at school and at home and it is an important skill to foster.

“Having the opportunity to belong to a book club, where they can read and share recreationally will encourage their literacy while reinforcing that reading is enjoyable and social.”

New members will receive a welcome pack courtesy of Hastings District Libraries. You can register your interest in joining the children’s book club with Kerry at the Flaxmere Library or call 879 6792.
