Local feedback sought for updated regional water programme

The Canterbury Regional Committee is keen to hear local feedback on its updated Regional Implementation Programme (RIP), covering all 10 Canterbury Water zones.

The Regional Committee is hosting three community meetings around Canterbury, including one in Geraldine on 21 June, to give you a chance to have your say.

The updated RIP now includes recommendations on regionally significant features in the six zones not covered in the original version.

The first edition of the RIP, finalised in May 2012 following and extensive period of community and stakeholder engagement, focussed on the four zones which had completed Zone Implementation Programmes (ZIP) for water management.

The RIP focusses on a number of priority issues which cover more than one zone, or are best tackled at a regional level, to meet the multiple targets in the Canterbury Water Management Strategy (CWMS).

The four priority areas are:
• Kaitiakitanga
• Ecosystem health and biodiversity
• Land use and water quality
• Regional infrastructure

Everyone with an interest in water management is invited to attend the meeting where there will be an opportunity to discuss the recommendations and provide feedback before a final version is prepared.

Written feedback can be submitted prior to July 8 by visiting the Regional Committee page at www.ecan.govt.nz/canterburywater.
