Welfare Centre opening in Mairehau after flooding


Welfare Centre opening in Mairehau to assist with localised flooding


To assists those affected by the localised flooding in the Mairehau area of Christchurch, Christchurch City Council Civil Defence Unit is opening a Welfare Centre at the Mairehau Primary school today at 12.30pm. The school will remain open.

There will be shelter available to anyone affected by the flooding in Mairehau, and Civil Defence staff and volunteers available to give advice to anyone who has any concerns or issues about the flooding.

Manager of Civil Defence and Emergency Management Team, Murray Sinclair says, "We ask all who may be at risk of flooding firstly to make arrangements with family and friends if they need to evacuate their homes. If anyone has any questions or concerns, they should call us on (03) 941 8999 and ask to speak to the Civil Defence Duty Officer, and we will help them with their concerns."

The Welfare Centre will be located at:
* Mairehau Primary school, 43 Mahars Road, Mairehau. * Contact details for Civil Defence Duty Officer: (03) 941 8999, ask for duty officer. * Welfare Centre will be open from 12.30pm today Monday 17 June 2013.
