Flooding disruption update
< Flooding
disruption update Welfare centre in Mairehau open until
7pm to assist with localised flooding The welfare centre will be located at: Health awareness urged during
flooding Although the city's infrastructure responded
well during the first day of rain, the ongoing nature of
this current storm has now caused widespread flooding across
Christchurch. It is possible that flooded waterways, parks,
roads and individual properties may be contaminated with
waste water. Care should be taken to avoid flood waters
where possible. If you do come into contact with flood
waters ensure that good hygiene measures (hand washing,
removing and washing contaminated clothes etc) are
taken. The Christchurch City Council, Environment
Canterbury and Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) are
working together to ensure that this is resolved as soon as
possible. CERA Monitoring Red Zone Road
Closure Update Additional closures: Unit
Manager of Transport and Greenspace John Mackie says, "We
ask that motorists please take extreme care when driving and
are especially aware of pedestrians and cyclists. We would
also remind road users that as a result of surface flooding,
puddles forming may conceal potholes and that they take care
when driving or cycling through." The heavy rainfall is
expected to ease off this evening, with fresh easterly winds
at first tending moderate south-westerly from early tomorrow
afternoon.
