Defence, weather and road updates
Latest forecasts advise snow is expected to return overnight an early tomorrow morning, turning to rain showers in the afternoon. South westerly winds expected and temperatures will remain very cold.
The Civil Defence Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and all emergency agencies are on stand-by if required.
Police are asking road
users to:
• Exercise extreme caution on the
roads as weather conditions deteriorate
• High winds,
heavy rain and snow in hill areas will make conditions
treacherous
• Localised flooding and forecast strong
gusty southerly winds will also pose hazards for
drivers
• Assess local conditions and consider delaying
non-essential travel
• Drive to the conditions, slow
down and extend following distances

tides
Very high tides are expected from Sunday
to Thursday next week, which are likely to cause flooding
around the lower Avon and Heathcote rivers. Council staff
and contractors will be out in these areas from Sunday
evening. Traffic restrictions will be in place where
flooding occurs and residents in low-lying areas should
prepare for surface flooding.
