Civil Defence, weather and road updates

Latest forecasts advise snow is expected to return overnight an early tomorrow morning, turning to rain showers in the afternoon. South westerly winds expected and temperatures will remain very cold.

The Civil Defence Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and all emergency agencies are on stand-by if required.

Police are asking road users to:
• Exercise extreme caution on the roads as weather conditions deteriorate
• High winds, heavy rain and snow in hill areas will make conditions treacherous
• Localised flooding and forecast strong gusty southerly winds will also pose hazards for drivers
• Assess local conditions and consider delaying non-essential travel
• Drive to the conditions, slow down and extend following distances

Road updates
Road closures:
• Avonside Drive, from Linwood to Stanmore.
• Owles Terrace, between 177 Seaview Tce, 117 Beresford St to 66 Collingwood St.

• 335 Bower Ave
• Pages Rd between numbers 459 to 572
• 112 Avonside Drive

King tides
Very high tides are expected from Sunday to Thursday next week, which are likely to cause flooding around the lower Avon and Heathcote rivers. Council staff and contractors will be out in these areas from Sunday evening. Traffic restrictions will be in place where flooding occurs and residents in low-lying areas should prepare for surface flooding.
