BACKGROUND ON GERARD QUINN:
Bio – Gerard Quinn
Gerard's previous role was as GM Industry & Innovation at Canterbury Development Corporation (CDC), the economic development agency for Christchurch city. CDC’s role is to stimulate economic growth through significant interventions, particularly focused on essential economic infrastructure, the city’s workforce, and its export-ready companies and sectors. He previously held the roles of GM Strategy & Planning, COO and Acting CEO at CDC. Gerard holds a BA (Psyc) and an MBA (dist) from UC, and a Grad Cert in Economic Development from AUT.
Gerard’s early career was in aviation, as an air traffic controller and later as manager of a number of business units of Airways Corporation. He also owned a 100 person services company which serviced the South island courier and banking sectors. In 2001 he moved to Melbourne to manage the supply chain and capability of 1100 controllers around Australia for Airservices Australia. Returning to Christchurch in 2004, he worked as Group Manager for the CEOs of Christchurch’s six largest electronics companies, before undertaking a role to establish a business development agency on behalf of NZTE, and then moved to CDC in 2007. Gerard has been closely involved with the city’s initiative to establish an economic relationship with Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province in China.
Gerard has been a Director of Crown Security Services Ltd, Connect NZ and Biz Networks Ltd, Canterbury Regional Business Partners Ltd, Canterbury Innovation Incubator and NZ Food Innovation (South Island) Ltd. He has served on the Advisory Boards of the Christchurch College of Education Business School, the Greater Christchurch Schools Network Trust, the Economic Development Agencies of NZ, the Canterbury Employment and Skills Board, and the Film South Trust. He has chaired the Advisory Board of the College of Business & Economics at the University of Canterbury.
