Consultation closing on draft Local Alcohol Policy

Friday 28 June 2013

Consultation closing on draft Local Alcohol Policy

The community has just three days left to get their submissions on the
draft Local Alcohol Policy (LAP) to the Council.

Consultation on the draft policy - which aims to minimise alcohol
related harm in the city - closes at 5pm on Monday (1 July 2013). So
far, 649 submissions have been received, with a large number of
submitters wanting to speak at the hearings being held at the end of
July.

Mayor Bob Parker says a full consultation programme has been running to
inform the public about the draft LAP, with Council staff getting out in
the community and trying to reach as many people as possible about the
proposals.

"We have held community information sessions around the city, had stands
at shopping malls and education institutions and visited different
community group meetings. We have also tried to connect with people
through Facebook and online advertising, as well as newspaper
advertising and posters and fliers.

"We realise that people are very interested in alcohol related issues
and want submissions from diverse groups and individuals so that this
policy truly reflects the local environment here in Christchurch."

A submission form and project information can be found online at
www.ccc.govt.nz/HaveYourSay or at any open Council library or service
centre.
