Outdoors New Zealand's e-newsletter - July 2013

Kia ora

Welcome to the July 2013 issue of Outdoors New Zealand's e-newsletter.

CEO  UPDATE

Kia ora koutou

Well, it's been a busy few weeks with storms over the whole country bringing us the bounty of new snow (and in Wellington, most of your neighbour's garden furniture). Here at ONZ we have been planning and preparing for the new year, which starts for us on July the 1st.

There are a few exciting changes and achievements to note:

Membership

Our new membership structure comes into force today. Membership renewal and invitation letters will go out today to all existing and prospective members. There are lots of great benefits to being a member (and some new ones coming), but the key outcome is being part of an effective and influential outdoors community. If you're engaged and involved as a member, you will contribute to the future direction of ONZ and the outdoors sector.

The World Outdoors Summit

Registrations for the outdoor sector event of the year are open this week. We have got an amazing programme of presentations, workshops, events and field trips that makes this an essential learning and development opportunity for you and your colleagues. It will be informative, engaging and entertaining and brings together  current thinking and best practices from the world of outdoor recreation, education and adventure tourism. I'm also really pleased to confirm that Department of Conservation and Skills Active Aotearoa are key sponsors for the Summit.

Sport NZ Investment

Sport NZ has been a significant supporter of ONZ and the outdoor recreation sector for many years and we are pleased to announce that we have agreed a new two-year investment partnership with Sport NZ for 2013-2015. Sport NZ has committed to enabling our support for the outdoors sector by funding the core areas of professional development, organisational governance and sector advocacy.

NZRA Collaboration

A feature of our 2013-2015 strategic plan is a closer working relationship with the NZ Recreation Association (NZRA). Beginning with a shared professional development plan, we are exploring opportunities to collaborate on initiatives that promote the sustainability of the recreation sector in New Zealand - from the front door to the great outdoors.

I look forward to having you all on board as ONZ members and partners and to working with NZRA to grow the wider recreation community in the years ahead.
