Car v Poles Dominate Week

Car v Poles Dominate Week

There has been some talk about electricity pricing in the Auckland market recently. To clarify, from 1 April 2013, transmission charges from Transpower (for the national grid) have remained largely unchanged compared with the previous year (an increase of 0.4%) and Vector’s charges* have decreased by a weighted average of 7.6%.

NETWORK SUMMARY for week ending 7 July 2013
ELECTRICITY
There were five car v pole incidents in Auckland this week – in Avondale, Takanini, Mt Roskill and in Manukau. Minor repairs were made to streetlight cables and there was no disruption to power. A car v pole incident in Mangere on Sunday resulted in the pole being badly damaged and requiring replacement.
Our crews were busy as they were called out to isolate the power at houses in Woodhill, Papatoetoe, Avondale, Point England, Kingsland, Albany and Te Hana. All houses were isolated for safety within a short period of time.
GAS TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION
There were two gas incidents during the week caused by contractors striking our gas lines – one in Pakuranga and one in Howick – both were resolved quickly.
PROJECTS

Two major gas pipeline projects in Hamilton are nearing completion. The replacement of old gas pipes in Fairfield and Beerescourt has taken three months and will soon be complete. A team of more than 20 people (across two sites) has replaced around seven kilometres of pipes. Crews will soon start work on another multi-million dollar gas pipeline replacement project in the region.
