Old Waimakariri Bridge temporary closure
8 July 2013
Alternative route planning advised during Old Waimakariri Bridge temporary closure
The Old Waimakariri Bridge will be closing for seven days to allow earthquake repair work to take place. The temporary closure period will be from 6am on Monday 15 July 2013, reopening at 6pm on Sunday 21 July 2013.
Unit Manager of City and Environment John Mackie says, “To assists those road users affected by the bridge closure we would ask them to visit the Transportforchristchurch website where they can view alternate routes. Here they will find further information on the work and a map to help them when planning their journeys during this period.
“Planning alternate routes will lessen the impact on travel times for road users during the works. We appreciate that this work will inconvenience motorists, and apologise for this in advance. Throughout the temporary closure, we will still have access across the bridge for cyclists and pedestrians.”
Southbound traffic on Main North Road should use Ohoka Road to access Southern Highway One (SH1) and not Tram Road. Delays are expected at the Tram Road ramp accessing SH1.
These repairs being undertaken by contractors are a joint project between the Christchurch City Council and the Waimakariri District Council.
Please visit www.transportforchristchurch.govt.nz to view a map that will assist with choosing alternate routes.
