Waikato Museum – School Holiday Programme

Book into one of our fantastic school holiday programmes! Each morning we’ll tackle a new project, before exploring our exciting new eco-exhibition, Planet Warriors (free entry included with morning programmes). On Tuesdays and Thursdays, children can join us for lunch and stay into the afternoon to take part in our World of WearableArt™ Experience. Entry to Off the Wall is included with the WOW Experience.

Monday 15 July
9am - 12.30pm
Design your own Planet Warrior

Let’s design a super hero alter-ego before we start our quest in Planet Warriors. (Ages 7-14.) $20 includes all materials and entry to Planet Warriors.

Tuesday 16 July
9am - 12.30pm Alice in Fashion Land

Get inspired by Off the Wall: World of WearableArt™ Up Close and spruce up your winter wardrobe. (Ages 7-14.) $20 includes all materials and entry to Planet Warriors. 

1pm - 3pm The WOW Experience
Experience the World of WearableArt™ in Off The Wall then we'll each make a work of wearable art. (Ages 7-14.) $15 includes all materials and entry to Off the Wall: World of WearableArt™ Up Close. Parents/caregivers are welcome to attend also for $5.

Wednesday 17 July
9am - 12.30pm Cyanotype Creations

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that gives a cyan-blue print. Inspired by the natural world, we’ll create these stunning blue images. (Ages 9 - 14.) $20 includes all materials and entry to Planet Warriors.

Thursday 18 July
9am - 12.30pm Attract Tui to Your Garden

Use recycled plastic bottles to make a nectar feeder to attract tui to your garden. (Ages 7-14.) $20 includes all materials and entry to Planet Warriors.

1pm - 3pm The WOW Experience
Experience the World of WearableArt™ in Off The Wall, then we'll each make a work of wearable art. (Ages 7-14.)  $15 includes all materials and entry to Off the Wall: World of WearableArt™ Up Close. Parents/caregivers are welcome to attend also for $5.

Friday 19 July
9am - 12.30pm Life in the Cold

Make 'cool' science inspired creations. (Ages 7-14.) $20 includes all materials and entry to Planet Warriors.

Monday 22 July
9am - 12.30pm Pinhole Cameras and Weird Images

$20 includes all materials and entry to Planet Warriors. Have a look at cameras of old in our collection then make and decorate your own pinhole camera. (Ages 7-12.)

Tuesday 23 July
9am - 12.30pm Hamilton: Sustainable City of the Future?

Use recycled cardboard and plastic containers to design Hamilton's streetscape in 2113. (Ages 7-14.) $20 includes some materials and entry to Planet Warriors.

1pm - 3pm The WOW Experience
Experience the World of WearableArt™ in Off The Wall, then we'll each make a work of wearable art. (Ages 7-14.) $15 includes all materials and entry to Off the Wall: World of WearableArt™ Up Close. Parents/caregivers are welcome to attend also for $5.

Wednesday 24 July
9am - 12.30pm Plastic Yarn (Plarn) Crafts

Learn how to make “plarn” (plastic yarn), finger knit, and express yourself through upcycling. (Ages 7-14.) $20 includes some materials and entry to Planet Warriors.

Thursday 25 July
9am - 12.30pm My Kid Could Do That

We’ll put our own spin on celebrated art works with curator Leafa Wilson. Here’s your chance to see your masterpiece on display at the museum when some of the works from this class become part of an exhibition. (Ages 5 -10.) $20 includes all materials and entry to Planet Warriors.
