Open Streets event postponed

Open Streets event postponed

As a result of forecast inclement weather for Sunday, the Council has today (Friday 12 July) decided to postpone the Open Streets cycle-themed event in the Central City until September.

The event was scheduled to take place on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

It will now go ahead on Sunday 29 September. This date has been chosen to again coincide with the school holidays.

Christchurch City Council’s Events Production Team Manager Chloë Dear says it is unfortunate to have to delay this event given the overwhelming support it has received but the risk the weather posed to its success was too great.

The forecast for Sunday is for strong cold southwesterlies and showers with a high of 7 degrees Celsius.

Chloë Dear says the hard work that has gone into organising the event will not be lost.

“We have had incredible support from throughout the community. Our team of volunteers and those who were participating with activities will no doubt be disappointed but we want this to be an event to remember so the best thing is to hold off until September when the weather is expected to be more suitable for outdoor activities.”
