Call for District Licencing Committee Members

Call for District Licencing Committee Members

Eastern Bay of Plenty Councils are seeking people who are passionate about the responsible sale and supply of alcohol in the region.

The three Eastern Bay of Plenty District Councils – Kawerau, Whakatāne and Ōpōtiki” – are joining forces to form a shared District Licencing Committee (DLC) and are seeking applications for Members and a Commissioner.

The DLC will have responsibility for local-level decisions under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, including liquor licence applications, new and renewal of premises licences, manager’s certificates, special licences and temporary authorities.

These are regulatory decision making roles so the applicants need to have excellent relationship skills, a good understanding of governance issues, and independent and strategic thinking skills. Members will also need to be independent of the alcohol industry with no current involvement or connections. The commissioner will also need chairperson, legal or hearing experience.

The Committee comes into force in December this year and training will be provided for all new members.

Expressions of interest close on 26 July 2013.

Position descriptions and information about how to apply for these positions can be found on each of the Council websites – www.whakatane.govt.nz, www.kaweraudc.govt.nz, and www.odc.govt.nz.
