All You Need to Know About Dunedin

Dunedin (Friday, 19 July 2013) – Life just got a lot easier for groups organising events in Dunedin.

The Dunedin City Council and Tourism Dunedin have developed a pool of information to help groups plan their event or pitch a project, whether it’s a bid to hold a major sports tournament, or a school reunion.

Called “Welcome to Dunedin”, the document includes a wide range of information including city facts and figures, maps, details about attractions, activities and accommodation and a list of useful contacts and websites.

DCC Events Special Projects Co-ordinator Kim Newman says the DCC is often approached by organisations wanting this type of information.

“We wanted to create a tool that would ensure everyone had access to quality, consistent information in the Dunedin brand.”

Hamish Saxton, Chief Executive of Tourism Dunedin says, “The key is consistency, and letting groups know that assistance is there to help bring people to Dunedin. Events are great excuses for attracting people to the city.”

The document is available on the websites of both organisations – www.dunedin.govt.nz/eventplanner and www.dunedinnz.com/meet/conference-planning-services/PlanningAnEvent.

Miss Newman says the DCC is always keen to know what events are planned in the city. For major events, such as rugby tests, the City Co-ordination Group swings into action. This group includes representatives from a range of areas, such as accommodation and tourism providers, retailers and the hospitality sector and from organisations such as the Otago Chamber of Commerce and Dunedin International Airport.
