Swabbing Delayed

Swabbing Delayed

Planned swabbing of Palmerston North’s trunk water main has been delayed due to fine weather.

The swabbing is part of an annual programme between the Turitea Water Treatment Plant and the Swabbing Chamber at the Fitzherbert Bridge for the purpose of removing sediment and minimising discoloured water issues.

Council had planned to start the programme on Tuesday night however water asset engineer Dora Luo said the weather is not playing ball.

“The resource consent conditions allow swabbing to occur at high flow and turbidity levels in the Manawatū River. It’s unlikely those conditions will be met given the weather forecast and so we’ve postponed the project.”

Dora Lou says Council staff will closely monitor the weather forecast, reschedule the work and inform the public.
