Jaffa Race raises money for charities!
Jaffas wore a new fluro green look today when they jostled and tumbled down world’s steepest street at the infamous Cadbury Jaffa Race in Dunedin.
The race marked the end of the week long Dunedin Cadbury Chocolate Carnival and raised funds for Parents Centre NZ Inc. and Make-A-Wish New Zealand.
With one of the largest turnouts in the history of the race, an excited crowd cheered on as two races of 25,000 Jaffas hurtled down Baldwin St. It was an amazingly tight race with the winning Jaffa crossing the finish line in under 25 seconds.
12-year old Jayden Chaplin from Dunedin was granted his wish by Make-A-Wish New Zealand to release the Jaffas for the first race. Make-A-Wish, along with Parents Centre NZ Inc. are this year’s beneficiaries from the race, raising money from the sales of Jaffa tickets.
The world’s steepest street party kicked off with pop sensation Jamie McDell performing live as part of the celebrations.
“The Cadbury Jaffa Race is always a great way to complete the chocolate celebration in Dunedin. Over the last week we have seen hundreds of people enjoying the festive feeling of Joyville, and of course experiencing the joy of Cadbury,” said Cadbury New Zealand Managing Director, Alastair De Raadt.
