Update: Night-works on Ferrymead Bridge and Main Road Sumner
The night-works on the stretch of road from Main Road to Shag Rock in Sumner and the temporary Ferrymead Bridge, will be extended to ensure the completion of the works.
Main Road to Shag Rock
Main Road
to Sumner at Shag Rock Reserve will be closed for one
further night, weather permitting, to complete overnight
work. This will allow shipping containers to be shifted back
so that new cycleways can be installed. The extra night will
be this Sunday 4 August 2013.
This is a result of the night lost due to the fog this week, and the Council’s agreement not to carry out the work on Friday or Saturday nights, thereby facilitating local Sumner businesses. The work will take place between 10.30pm and 5.30am on Sunday night. A detour will be in place up Evans Pass Road, Summit Road and through to Mount Pleasant during the closures.
Buses will continue to operate using a shuttle service up over the detour and emergency services will be able to go through the Main Road work - they will contact contractors directly to advise them they need to get through.
The temporary Ferrymead Bridge
resurfacing
Due to delays with the chip sealing of
the bridge running planks, the temporary Ferrymead Bridge
resurfacing work to reduce noise and allow a softer ride for
vehicles, will now start on Sunday 4 August 2013 at 8pm. A
stop/go traffic system will be in place to assist all
traffic.
Delays will be kept to five minutes from either approach, where possible, while the stop/go control is in place. Emergency service vehicles will be given priority. Pedestrians and cyclist will use the footpath on the open bridge.
Both sets of work are weather dependent.
