Ultrafast Fibre meets year two targets
Ultrafast Fibre has met its year two targets for building the ultra-fast broadband (UFB) network in Hamilton, Tauranga, Wanganui, New Plymouth, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Tokoroa and Hawera.
On 30 June 2013 (financial year end), Ultrafast Fibre had laid 1,130kms of UFB network, giving 48,000 residential homes, schools and businesses the ability to connect to UFB.
Ultrafast Fibre chief executive Maxine Elliott said the pace of the rollout had ramped up in the past 12 months and the company is on track to achieve its goal of completing its build area by 2106.
“Ultrafast Fibre is very pleased with both its current year-end and quarterly implementation results with nearly one third of our areas now able to connect to UFB. Across the entire country, 20 per cent of the project is now also complete,” said Ms Elliott.
There are currently 22 retailers selling services across Ultrafast Fibre areas, with some selling in all and others only in specific towns or cities.
The Government’s goal is that the country’s UFB network will bring fibre optic technology to 75 per cent of New Zealanders by 2019. Ultrafast Fibre is responsible for 12 per cent of the national build.
