Crs Quax and Stewart Re-elected unopposed to Auckland Council

Dick Quax has welcomed the news that he and his Howick Ward Auckland Council colleague, Sharon Stewart have been re-elected to the Auckland Council unopposed.

“It is humbling to realise that my community has seen fit to me back on the Council without contesting an election”, said Mr Quax, “it makes me even more determined to carry on my work on behalf of Botany, Howick and Pakuranga.”

“There is a lot of work that still needs to be done - our rates continue to be unacceptably high, imposed by the left leaning majority on Council, while the uniform annual general charge, the means by which Council spreads the rates burden more evenly across the region is too low, the Unitary Plan is still not based on sound empirical evidence and threatens our cherished New Zealand lifestyle. Council borrowing is too high and has escalated from $ 2.7b at amalgamation in 2010 to close to $7b in just 3 years and as of today interest payments are costing the rate payer $1m per day. Projects of dubious value such as the white water rafting course in Manukau continue to be approved while spending on vital infrastructure such as storm water remains dangerously low.”

Despite being re-elected unopposed Mr Quax will still be out door knocking and getting feedback from the community.

“Don’t be surprised to find me knocking on your door during the election campaign. I need to know what the community’s views are on a whole range of issues including rates, borrowing, environmental matters and the provision of community facilities.”
