New finance chief for Rotorua District Council

ROTORUA 19.08.13: Rotorua District Council (RDC) chief executive Geoff Williams has today announced the appointment of Dave Foster as the council’s new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Mr Foster is currently CFO for Auckland Transport, the Auckland Council-owned organisation responsible for developing and maintaining public transport services and roading networks across the city.

He currently manages Auckland Transport’s $1.4 billion annual budget and leads a team of 75 staff.

Mr Williams said he was delighted to have attracted Mr Foster to RDC as he will bring sound business acumen, strong financial and strategic leadership credentials, and senior local government experience to the council.

“His appointment significantly strengthens our organisation’s capacity to strategically plan our future direction and to efficiently manage our financial operations and legislative obligations.

“He will become a member of our Executive Leadership team at the council.

“Dave’s experience with Auckland Transport, and his previous roles as CFO for Manukau City Council, Local Government Sector Manager for the Office of the Auditor-General and CFO for Wanganui District Council, will be immensely valuable in helping chart our council’s and our district’s next phases of development.”

Mr Foster said he was particularly pleased to be joining Rotorua District Council as it was a highly respected organisation in local government circles, with a reputation for sound management and governance.

“An equally important factor in my decision to apply for the CFO position at RDC was the attractiveness of Rotorua in terms of lifestyle opportunities on offer.  My wife and I are looking forward to enjoying Rotorua’s outstanding range of facilities and services right on the doorstep, and to being part of the Rotorua community.

Mr Foster was the successful candidate from 20 applications received from throughout New Zealand and overseas.

He is expected to start his new role as Chief Financial Officer at Rotorua District Council in mid-October.
