Taumarunui Horse Issues Continue

Ruapehu District Council (RDC) is continuing to receive complaints from residents about horses being kept in residential areas.

RDC Compliance Team Leader, Brenda Ralph, said that compliance staff impounded a horse on Wednesday that was tethered on council land with no water.

“In keeping with council policy of providing a warning and information on what the rules are before taking more serious action this owner had previously been cautioned about tethering a horse in this location,” he said.

“Despite the previous warning the owner got quite angry when compliance impounded the horse.”

“Unfortunately it continues to be a small number of horse owners that are causing the issues.”

Mrs Ralph added that as well as being kept where they shouldn’t be compliance staff are often finding the horses with inadequate feed or no water as in this case.
