TV TakeBack Drop-off venue moving
Palmerston North City Council has noticed a drop-off in the number of old television sets being delivered to the drop-off collection point at Arena Manawatū so have decided to close it.
Set up for the TV TakeBack programme, the Arena collection point has received in excess of 2000 old TV sets since it opened on 21 August.
“If residents still have old analogue sets they wish to recycle, they can be dropped off at the Ferguson Street Recycling Centre from Thursday 5th September. Cost is $5 per set instead of the normal $25,” Natasha Simmons rubbish and recycling asset engineer for the Council said.
“If you want to keep watching your TV after 29 September you’ll have to watch it using Freeview, Sky, IGLOO or Vodafone TV.”
Natasha says if you’re already watching TV through one of these services you don’t have to do anything. However, if you’re not watching TV through Freeview, Sky, IGLOO or Vodafone TV check out goingdigital.co.nz to find out what you need for the switchover.
“If you have an old TV hanging around the house and you want to get rid of it, this is the perfect opportunity.”
Natasha says TVs need to be recycled responsibly as they contain hazardous materials such as lead, cadmium, phosphorous, mercury and brominated flame retardant plastics.
