New chair for Watercare Services Limited
The Mayor has named David Clarke as the new chair of council controlled organisation, Watercare Services Limited (WSL).
Mr Clarke, who is the current deputy chair, replaces Ross Keenan who has been chair of WSL since March 2010.
Mr Clarke will work alongside Mr Keenan from later this month until Mr Keenan’s term finishes at the end of October to ensure an effective transition. Mr Clarke will become chair effective 1 November 2013.
Len Brown has paid tribute to the leadership shown by Mr Keenan and says he is looking forward to working with Mr Clarke:
“Ross Keenan has played a superb role in governing Watercare through a difficult period of integration and has helped to transition the company into its new form. David Clarke is highly regarded in local and central government and business. I look forward to the continued contribution he will make in his new role at Watercare.”
Mr Clarke has been a member of Watercare’s board for more than five years. As well as deputy chair, he chairs the company’s Capital Projects Working Group.
Mr Clarke has considerable experience in the areas of engineering, biotechnology, health and food sectors. He has been the chair and director of multiple technology industry companies and has strong commercial and governance skills.
He is a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management and member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.
David Clarke says, “I’m privileged to be appointed chairman of Watercare and follow in the footsteps of Ross Keenan who has made a significant contribution to Watercare during his tenure. Watercare has an ambitious capital works programme and a number of customer initiatives being delivered in the near future and I, along with my fellow directors, am excited about helping to deliver these.”
