Free bus days are coming back – across the whole region.
SouthLink - click for route info. To mark World Car Free Day, communities served by Citylink and SouthLink services will enjoy a day of free bus travel next week, in a promotion designed both to thank regular passengers and to encourage more people to try the buses.
Citylink - click for route info.The party kicks off in South Taranaki on Tuesday 17 September and culminates with a day of free travel on Citylink services in New Plymouth on Friday 20 September, which is World Car Free Day.
Free services during the week will include:
Tuesday 17 September
SouthLink: Manaia to Hawera (via Ohawe Beach on demand) and return.
Thursday 19 September
SouthLink: Hawera to Waverley (via Mokoia, Manutahi, Kakaramea and Patea) and return.
Citylink: Stratford to New Plymouth (via Inglewood) and return.
Friday 20 September
Citylink: All New Plymouth, Waitara and Oakura services (excluding school buses).
SouthLink: Hawera to Opunake (via Manaia) and return.
SouthLink: Opunake to Hawera (via Kaponga, Eltham and Normanby) and return.
SouthLink: Opunake to New Plymouth (via Rahotu, Pungarehu, Okato and Oakura) and return.
The free bus promotion is being organised by the Taranaki Regional Council, which provides Citylink and SouthLink services through its contractors.
“We marked World Car Free Day last year with a similar promotion in New Plymouth, and it was really well received,” says the Council’s Transport Services Manager, Chris Clarke. “Citylink patronage was boosted by more than 50%, with nearly 1000 extra passenger trips.”
