Record Number of Nelson Wineries To Showcase New Releases

Nelson Wineart is pleased to announce this year’s Nelson New Release Tasting Event will offer local wine aficionados the chance to taste the new releases of more winemakers than ever before in the event’s six year history.

25 wineries will be represented at the event being held on Tuesday 24 September from 5.30 - 7.30pm at The Boathouse, Wakefield Quay, Nelson. Entry is by ticket only, available through the Nelson Wineart website www.nelsonwineart.co.nz. Tickets are limited and cost $35.

Nelson Wineart General Manager Gisela Purcell says the event has been growing in popularity each year.

“It’s now a well-established and much anticipated event on the wine lover’s calendar. The feedback we get tells us that the unique chance to be the first to taste the new offerings from our region and chat with the people who made these wines is much appreciated. We have people waiting to snap up tickets as soon as we open them up for sale, “says Gisela Purcell.

“We are proud of our regional wines and this event is something the winemakers also look forward to. The energy and buzz from having them all in the same room is something very special.”

This year there will be over 100 wines to taste, some only recently bottled.

Two new brands at the event will be Aronui Wines, produced by Kono Beverages and Vista Wines.

Vista Wines is a boutique family vineyard in Kina owned and worked by Greg and Bridget Dryden. Greg is a senior consultant at Fruition Horticulture and he and Bridget were proud to be able to make a long-held dream come true with the production of their home vineyard’s first wines in 2012.

“We’re excited about being at this event for the first time. We love being part of the Nelson wine community and for us this Nelson Wineart tasting event will be a great opportunity for us to get some instant feedback on our wines from people who know and appreciate wine. That’s incredibly valuable for us as winemakers,” says Greg Dryden.

Greg and Bridget will have their 2012 Pinot Noir and 2013 Pinot Gris available for tasting on the 24th of September.

Gisela Purcell says the $35 price not only includes the opportunity to taste as many wines as you’d like as well as chat with the representatives from each winery but there will also be gourmet nibbles, a free glass and live music on the deck of the Boathouse overlooking the water to give the event a classic Nelson feel.

The wineries represented at this year’s event are: Anchorage Wines, Aronui Wines, Blackenbrook Vineyard, Brightwater Vineyards, Fossil Ridge Wines, Greenhough Vineyards, Harakeke Farm, Kahurangi Estate (recent winner of the Colin Harrison Chardonnay Trophy – for their Kahurangi Estate 2012 Mt Arthur Reserve Chardonnay), Kaimira Estate, Kina Beach Vineyard, Kina Cliffs Vineyard, Middle Earth Wine, Milcrest Estate, Moutere Hills Winery, Neudorf Vineyards, Richmond Plains Organic Wines, Rimu Grove Winery, Riwaka River Estate, Ruby Bay Vineyard, Sea Level Wines, Seifried Estate, Te Mania Wines, Vista Wines, Waimea Estates and Woollaston Estates.
