Feedback sought on Auckland’s first urban cycleway
Time is running out to have your say on the proposed urban cycleway on Beach Road.
Auckland Transport’s Manager of Community Transport, Matthew Rednall, says “Beach Road is an important arterial route in central Auckland, it is also a critical gap in the Auckland Cycle Network.”
The proposed upgrade to Beach Road includes improving intersections to provide greater safety and benefits for pedestrians and cyclists. It is also proposed that there will be a three metre wide dual direction cycle path physically separated from the vehicle lanes.
“This will be the first real urban cycleway in Auckland”.
It will join with the Grafton Gully cycle path and the proposed flagship cycle routes on Tamaki Drive and Quay Street to form a safe, convenient link for cyclists into and through the CBD.
Barbara Cuthbert, the chair of Cycle Action Auckland says, “This first urban cycleway will be safe and feel safe and this will encourage Aucklanders to get out on their bikes and enjoy this beautiful city”.
CAA has had 1200 hits on its Facebook site supporting the project. http://caa.org.nz/auckland-transport/aucklands-first-urban-cycleway/
Auckland Transport is seeking feedback on the cycleway before going out for detailed design. Feedback closes this Friday, 4 October.
