Lower Hutt siren test Thursday 10 November at 10am

Lower Hutt siren test Thursday 10 October at 10am

Civil defence sirens in Lower Hutt will be tested on Thursday 10 November at 10am.

The sirens will sound for 2 minutes. When the sirens are used in a real emergency, they will sound continuously for a long period of time.

Wellington Region Emergency Management Office (WREMO) Operational Readiness Manager Clive Phillips says the sirens are a means of alerting the community to an emergency.

“We test the sirens annually to help Lower Hutt residents become familiar with the siren sound and the actions they should take.

“When people hear them, they should turn on their radio, visit www.huttcity.govt.nz or facebook.com/huttcitycouncil for more information.

“When we test the sirens on Thursday we want people to tell us if they hear them and they can do this by filling in an online survey at www.huttcity.govt.nz. The website also has useful information about getting prepared for an emergency.”
