Don’t forget to vote for your DHB

Cantabrians who haven’t yet voted are being urged to do it now

Residents have just under four more days to vote for their preferred district health board candidates.

Preliminary results for the election will be declared on either Saturday 12 October or Sunday 13 October

Kevin Roche, Canterbury District Health Board Assistant Board Secretary, says past results shows there tends to be a late surge as the closing date looms.

“If you’ve had your voting forms sitting untouched somewhere around the house, now’s the time to exercise your vote. Every vote counts,” Kevin says.

“Please remember to rank the DHB candidates in numerical order – not tick the boxes.

Votes can be processed until noon on Election Day, Saturday 12 October. Those voting via post are encouraged to send them by Wednesday 9 October to ensure they’re processed in time. Voters living in the same household must return their votes individually to maintain the security of each person’s vote. If you are not on the Electoral Roll you can enrol until this Friday and exercise a special vote at your local council offices by 12 noon Saturday

The elections, carried out every three years, are done by postal vote and close at 12 noon on Saturday, October 12.

The district health board elections are for seven positions, elected on an "at large" basis by enrolled residents of the Canterbury DHB area (extending from Kaikoura to Ashburton), meaning that they represent the entire population.

Following the election, the Minister of Health Tony Ryall may appoint a further four members, making a total of 11 members
