Len Brown reminds Aucklanders to vote
Auckland Mayor Len Brown is encouraging all eligible Aucklanders to exercise their democratic right.
“The last day to freepost your vote in this year's local government election is Wednesday 9 October. I'm encouraging people to pick up their voting paper, fill it out and freepost it back in," says Len Brown.
“Unfortunately the campaign to encourage voting has been lacklustre, if not confusing. But people need to exercise their right to vote and every vote is important. I know many people have been planning to exercise their vote, but just haven't got around to it.
"Wednesday is the last day people can be sure their vote will count if they want to freepost their voting papers back in."
“If people miss the 9 October deadline for postal voting, they will need to drop their papers in a ballot box at the nearest public library, the Electoral Office at 45 Queen Street, Auckland Central, or one of the main council service centres. Votes will need to be in by noon, Saturday 12 October 2013 to be counted.
"I know people care about their region. On this campaign I've spoken to thousands of Aucklanders about the need to deliver better public transport, more affordable housing and support for libraries, parks and pools.
"Posting your vote means you can have your say over who is best to deliver these essential services. Make sure your voice is heard," says Mr Brown.
