Urban Design finalists can soon breathe easy
Kevin McCloud, popular host of the UK TV series Grand Designs, is coming to Christchurch for the announcement of the winner of Breathe – New Urban Village competition on 22 October.
McCloud, an international judge of the architectural competition, will be presenting at the event - to be held at Christchurch's iconic Cardboard Cathedral.
Jointly organized by the Christchurch City Council, the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment, the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, Ngai Tahu and Christchurch Central Development Unit, the competition challenged teams to come up with a financially viable benchmark design for 21st century inner city living.
The four finalists, selected from 58 entries representing 15 countries, had three months to take their initial concepts through to developed design.
The winning concept will be built adjacent to Latimer Square, in central Christchurch, offering residents an exceptional quality of life, with local parks, entertainment, recreational facilities and the central business area on their doorstep.
