Motorists advised to expect delays on State Highway 73

Motorists advised to expect delays on State Highway 73

Motorists are being advised of further short delays and road closures on State Highway 73, from Springfield to Arthur's Pass, next week as stabilisation work is completed on Paddy's Bluff, near Cass.

The road is being closed for periods of up to five minutes while teams work to remove unstable rock from the bluff above the highway and the road will be closed for about one hour from 11am to noon on Wednesday 16 October for blasting.

The NZ Transport Agency's Highway Manager Colin Knaggs says minor rockfall issues have plagued the area for some time.

"This work will remove about 500 cubic metres of rock from two areas along this section of the highway, creating a more stable environment."

Costing $120,000, the work is expected to be completed on Saturday 19 October, depending on weather.
