New Alcohol Licensing Fees
A new fee regime has been published by the Ministry of Justice under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012. The Act, which is designed to change the way alcohol is sold, supplied and consumed, now includes national default fees for alcohol licensing. These will come into effect 18 December 2013.
Auckland Council, responsible for administering the new fees, has written to all owners of on and off-licenses today to advise them of the new default fees system which is based on a cost/risk approach.
All existing licensees in the region have been assessed by the council’s Alcohol Licensing unit under the Ministry Of Justice’s cost/risk framework. Licensed premises owners will this week be given information on:
• The cost/risk category of their premise as it currently stands;
• The MOJ’s cost/risk category framework and fees*;
• Annual fees – a new fee, payable on the anniversary of their premise licence;
• Changes to Managers’ fees, Special Licences and Temporary Authorities.
The fees regime will be set in MOJ’s new regulations that are expected to be finalised in November 2013. Auckland Council will be corresponding with licensees to confirm their new fees as they are due.
Ends
Notes:
*Fees shown in the MOJs cost/risk framework have been published online by MOJ this month. If there are any changes, Auckland Council will notify licensees.
