Swabbing of water mains on hold

Swabbing of water mains on hold

Swabbing of the City’s trunk water mains is on hold due to unfavourable weather forecasts. It was scheduled for this week, however, is unlikely to happen.

Every year the Palmerston North City Council cleans the city’s trunk water mains in a bid to reduce the likelihood of discoloured water making its way in to residents’ homes. This process is called swabbing.

The work is weather dependent and needs to be carried out when the Manawatū River flow rate reaches a certain level. The swabbing is scheduled during the winter months when river levels are highest.

The Council has already completed one swabbing exercise this winter.
