Guy Fawkes has a James Bond theme

The Treetech Guy Fawkes Fireworks Spectacular returns to New Brighton Pier at 9pm on Tuesday 5 November, with a James Bond-themed show that will dazzle the living daylights out of Christchurch families.

To celebrate 50 years of the Bond themes you know and love, Firework Professionals have choreographed some pyrotechnics worthy of a Bond movie, all timed to a thrilling soundtrack – featuring artists from Shirley Bassey to Adele – broadcast simultaneously over The Breeze 94.5FM.

Christchurch City Council Marketing and Events Unit Manager Richard Stokes says the event is an established highlight on the Christchurch events calendar.

“The Treetech Guy Fawkes Fireworks Spectacular is free, accessible and perfect for families,” he says.

“The evening has always been an ideal event for bringing people together, but this year’s Bond theme gives music and movie buffs an added incentive to find a spot on the beach and watch the sparks fly. We’re promised that this year’s show will be full of surprises and creativity.”

For those who don’t bring their own radios, a sound-system worthy of Q Branch will be installed to provide perfect acoustics for 70 metres on either side of New Brighton Pier.

Revellers are asked to leave their own fireworks at home and to be mindful of New Brighton’s alcohol ban. To avoid congestion, there will be no access to Seaview Road (from Pages Road to Marine Parade) and Beresford Street.

Suggested driving routes are:

· If coming in from the north, use Marine Parade, Keyes Road or New Brighton Road.

· If coming in from the south, use Owles Terrace Via Pages Road or Bridge Street. Bridge Street is now open to light two-way traffic at 20 kilometres an hour, with a bridge weight limit of 3.5 tonnes per vehicle.

There is parking available at Thompson Park (off Marine Parade) for a gold coin donation upon entry. On-street parking is permitted outside the road closures. Access for disabled parking in the North Ramp car park is via Pages Road.

Because some Port Hills roads are closed or unusable due to earthquake damage and risk of rockfall, finding a ground-level vantage point is recommended.

Guy Fawkes is traditionally the busiest night of the year for the Council’s Animal Control Team, with fireworks often causing frightened dogs and cats to run and hide. Residents are advised to keep their pets contained safely in their home – ideally with some music playing to keep them relaxed.
