New Zealand Cup and
Show Week starts on Friday
New Zealand’s biggest Spring festival and Canterbury’s favourite, New Zealand Cup and Show Week starts on Friday evening, 8 November with a free street party in Christchurch’s Re:START mall.
Christchurch City Council Marketing and Events Unit Manager Richard Stokes is encouraging people to take time out to celebrate the city’s festival and enjoy the wide range of events on offer this year.
“We’ve got a big week ahead and it would be great to see everybody out enjoying themselves. Gather your friends and family together and make the most of what’s on offer – there truly is something for everyone this year,” Mr Stokes says.
As well as Friday’s free street party, which features live music acts including OpShop, there is A-league football to look forward to, the Urban Assault obstacle course challenge, and Fashion for a Cure event at the Cardboard Cathedral.
Racing history could play out at the New Zealand Trotting Cup next week, with the same winner from the past two years set to make it three Cup wins in succession at Addington Raceway. Terror To Love is the favourite again for the Christchurch Casino New Zealand Trotting Cup on 12 November.

Christchurch City Council is also reminding people heading to New Zealand Trotting Cup Day events at Addington of an alcohol ban in the area on Tuesday 12 November.
The temporary ban is for an area around Addington Raceway and Events Centre from 9am to 10pm on Tuesday 12 November 2013. The area is bounded by Blenheim Road, Moorhouse Avenue, Lincoln Road, Wrights Road and Matipo Street.
