Mitre 10 MEGA Porirua on target
Mitre 10’s new Porirua MEGA store remains on target for a December opening with construction timetable on track.
The Porirua store is set to open as part of an on-going nationwide expansion programme, which will see the network of Mitre 10 MEGA stores increase by three this year reaching 37. The first of the three, Mitre 10 MEGA New Lynn, opened mid-October with the 36th store, Mitre 10 MEGA Taupo, tracking for a November opening.
Mitre 10 MEGA Porirua will feature an undercover drive-thru for trade customers, a large garden centre, children’s play area and Columbus Café along with a brightly lit modern retail hall with a range that will meet most if not all home improvement requirements.
With the major part of the construction at Porirua almost complete, the huge task of internal shelving and fitting out is underway. The twin shift set up teams are due to begin the unloading of around 200 40-foot containers of product to be stacked into the 8900 square metre store.
As the new Mitre 10 MEGA opens up in Porirua, Mitre 10 Bright’s Building Supplies in Paremata will close down with all staff being offered positions in the new Mitre 10 MEGA store. Stephen Nelson, CEO Mitre 10 MEGA, Petone, Upper Hutt and Porirua says, “this is a very exciting time for the area and for Mitre 10 NZ.
“The Porirua store is a great development for the area. We are looking to employ approximately 70 staff in total.” said Mr Nelson. “We’ve offered roles to all 15 of the Bright’s team, and after conducting a recruitment day had in excess of 250 people showing interest in wanting to be part of the Mitre 10 MEGA experience. It is really important for this store to keep things as local as possible, so we are keen to hire Porirua locals who know, live and love the area”.
Of the roles available they will include a mix of full time and part-time positions, including Team Supervisors and Service Assistants for the numerous departments of the new store, as well as trade representatives, sales support administrators, store administration, inwards goods, purchasing and stock control roles.
A number of appointments have been made to the Senior Management Team with Darren Milburn taking on the role of Store Manager ably supported in the trade field by the company’s Trade Manager, Laurie Gallen.
“Given the incredible turn out on our recruitment day we will be extremely busy working through each and every applicant. We are attracting applicants from a wide range of backgrounds already with more coming in every day, so we have quite a hard task ahead of us”, Mr Nelson says.
“We’re looking to hire motivated people. We are committed to placing a strong emphasis on not only getting the right people but supporting them with internal staff training and offering opportunities for advancement. We believe the key to a great store is having the right team totally focused on giving great customer service.”
Anyone still interested in being part of this new team should apply via either Trade Me, Seek or the Mitre 10 website; https://mitre10.careercentre.net.nz/. The store is located at 3 Semple Street and will boast some of the most up-to-date retail trends and innovations.
