Take care on loose sealing chip on SH36 at Kakahi Village
The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to take care and suggests using an alternate route via State Highway 33 and State Highway 2 when travelling between Rotorua and Tauranga as there is a significant amount of loose chipseal on State Highway 36 between the Mangorewa Gorge and the Roy Rd intersection, due to recent road surfacing operations.
A recently applied chip seal surface has failed due to recent wet weather, drivers should be aware that there is loose chip in the traffic lanes.
Transport Agency Highways Manager, Brett Gliddon says “Our contractor is working on the situation which will require the surfacing material to be reapplied, we will need fine weather for the work to be undertaken, in the interim we are asking motorists to either use SH33 and SH2 or to take extreme care when driving along this section of road.”
"Roadwork’s require dry weather, and unfortunately recent periods of rain soon after the job was completed has affected the resurfacing work, resulting in the chip seal becoming lose. The speed limit has been reduced in this area to 50km/h, and we ask motorists to really take care when driving through this area.
“As
soon as we have a significant break in the weather, our
contractors will resurface this area again.”
