Mayor Ray Wallace asks Hutt City to take The Pledge

Mayor Ray Wallace is challenging all Hutt City residents to sign up online to end men’s violence towards women. He has taken The Pledge as part of the 2013 White Ribbon Campaign, agreeing ‘to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence towards women’.

Hutt City residents can sign the pledge themselves at http://whiteribbon.org.nz.

“I’m proud to take this pledge and demonstrate my commitment to ending violence,” says Mayor Wallace.

“My pledge is just one part of ongoing work in Hutt City to end violence, which destroys lives and prevents the most vulnerable in our society from participating in our communities.

“Hutt City Council is also a key member of the Safe Hutt Valley initiative, which sees us working with organisations like ACC, New Zealand Police, the District Health Board and others to eliminate violence and other community limiting behaviours,” says Mayor Wallace.

The online pledge that Mayor Wallace has taken asks men to stop violence against women. However, Hutt City is asking all residents to sign the pledge because we all have a role to play in ensuring a violence-free society.

People can sign The Pledge online through Hutt City Libraries’ free internet if they don’t have access at home.
