Community organisations are being invited to take up an offer to fundraise at next year’s Wanaka A&P Show.
The Wanaka A&P Show is calling for organisations, groups and clubs to apply to raise money for their cause at one of the biggest annual events in the Queenstown Lakes District.
The Show, held on March 7-8, 2014, attracts more than 20,000 people to Wanaka’s Upper Clutha Showgrounds and provides a great opportunity for organisations to take advantage of the crowds for their fundraising efforts.
Run by the Upper Clutha A&P Society – itself a not-for-profit organisation – the Wanaka A&P Show gives free sites to a select number of registered charitable organisations as part of its support.
“With the huge crowds that the Wanaka A&P Show brings in over two days, it’s the perfect opportunity for organisations and clubs to hold their main annual fundraiser. We provide that avenue and bring the people in,” Show Coordinator Jane Stalker says.
“The Show is a community event and it’s important for us to give back to the community that supports us. By us giving organisations a free site at the Show, it’s allowing small organisations to maximise their opportunities.”
Nine groups, including Wanaka Primary, Hawea Kindergarten, the Cancer Society and Wanaka Hospice have already been granted their free sites. Stalker says there’s still time for other groups to apply. Interested groups should email jane@wanakashow.co.nz.
The Upper Clutha A&P Society also utilises local groups like the Wanaka Squash Club, Wanaka Rowing Club, Friends of Mt Aspiring College, the Wanaka Fire Brigade, Upper Clutha Women’s Lions, Upper Clutha Plunket, Wanaka Yacht and Power Boat Club and Wanaka Cub Scouts to assist with the smooth operation of the Show. All groups receive a contribution to their funds.
The Upper Clutha A&P Society also provides scholarships to Society members or their children, to assist with fees directly related to education or training in any subject related to a facet of the Show.
About the Wanaka A&P Show
The Wanaka A&P Show is one of New Zealand’s largest agricultural and pastoral events, attracting more than 25,000 people each year. Run over two days and set on picturesque Showgrounds overlooking Lake Wanaka, the Show includes traditional features such as equestrian and livestock events, home industries displays, wool classing and hundreds of trade stalls. It also runs novelty events – like the famous Jack Russell race – and entertainment. Where town meets country, the Wanaka Show is fun, informative and worth every effort to attend. Next year’s Show is held on March 7-8, 2014.
