Community champions honoured at Mayoral awards

Community champions honoured at Mayoral awards

Seven community stalwarts from across the Waikato district have been honoured by Mayor Allan Sanson in his inaugural Mayor’s Community Awards.

The seven recipients were last week presented with their awards by Mayor Sanson at a ceremony in the Council Chambers attended by councillors, senior Council staff and the recipients’ family and friends.

The recipents are:

· Maggie Wilcock, Tamahere

· Stuart Graham, Tuakau

· Andrew Heta, Pokeno

· Jennie Gore, Te Kauwhata

· Chrissy Hodkinson, Raglan

· Anne Ramsay, Ngaruawahia

· Jean Beverland, Huntly

Mayor Sanson initiated the awards to formally recognise the “above and beyound” contributions each recipient makes to their community.

“So often these unsung community heroes go about their business quietly, not seeking recognition or the limelight, when they should be thanked and acknowledged for their amazing efforts to improve their community.

“The difference they make can be large or small, but thanks to their work they improve the fabric of their community, and these awards formally recognise this.”
