Draft Main Road Master Plan attracts comments from locals
People wanting to comment on the draft plan for the recovery and rebuild of the Main Road corridor from Ferrymead Bridge to Marriner Street in Sumner have until 5pm Friday to make a submission.
More than 130 people attended three community drop-in sessions to discuss the Draft Main Road Master Plan with Christchurch City Council staff. Urban Regeneration Team Leader Michael Fisher says this shows the high level of interest locals and corridor users have in securing a strong future for the area.
“We were enthused by the largely positive reaction the Plan received. Among the main things people at the drop-in sessions were interested in were the flow of traffic, parking provisions, the Coastal Pathway and re-establishment of community facilities in Redcliffs.”
“It is important that the Council gets further guidance from locals through this consultation period. The more we understand the aspirations and expectations of the local community for this important part of our city, the better the final Plan will be.
“About 50 submissions have been received so far and anyone with an interest in the plan for the Main Road corridor is encouraged to make their views known in a submission.”
Submissions must be received by 5pm on Friday 22 November.

Christchurch City Council developed the Draft Main Road Master Plan for the Redcliffs and Soleares Avenue commercial centres and Main Road corridor in response to damage caused by the earthquakes. It sets out a vision, framework and actions to support the recovery of the area from Ferrymead Bridge to Marriner Street in Sumner and also looks to build resilience into the future.
