Public showing strong support for Ellerslie 2014
Christchurch residents are backing Christchurch City Council’s re-invigorated Ellerslie International Flower Show, with ticket sales to locals up more than 40 per cent on the same time last year.
As of Thursday 21 November, Christchurch resident’s discount ticket sales for the 2014 Flower Show were 3910, compared with 2772 last year.
Christchurch City Council's Marketing and Events Unit Manager, Richard Stokes says, “We’re thrilled early ticket sales for Ellerslie suggest the public realises we’ve listened to feedback on the 2013 Show and our improvements are hitting the mark.
“People told us they want more of the stunning gardens Ellerslie is renowned for, and that’s exactly what we’ve got lined up.
“We’d like to thank Christchurch residents for their strong show of support and for getting behind an event that celebrates Christchurch’s Garden City heritage and culture.
“We’re off to a great start but it’s still very early days. We’re hoping the trend continues, as people are realise we’ve got a great show lined up for 2014.”
Ellerslie 2014 is offering the most major exhibition gardens in the show’s 21-year history and twice as many gardens as at this year’s event.
There will be 16 exhibition gardens of a minimum 100 square metre size at Ellerslie in 2014, compared with seven in 2013. The most major exhibition gardens previously seen at Ellerslie were 15 in 2009. See www.ellerslieflowershow.co.nz for descriptions of all 16 major gardens.
Exhibition garden designers lined up for 2014 include popular former Ellerslie gold medal winners - Ben Hoyle from the Kapiti Coast, Bayley LuuTomes from Wellington and Christchurch’s own Dan Rutherford.
Crowd favourite Jenny Gillies, an internationally renowned Christchurch-based costume and fabric artist, is back for Ellerslie 2014, with a new “Naughty by Nature” show featuring sumptuous floral artwear.
Ellerslie International Flower Show 2014 will be held in Christchurch from 26 February to 2 March 2014. Tickets are on sale from November at www.ellerslieflowershow.co.nz. Christchurch residents can buy $22 tickets during November from the website and Council Service Centres.
“The tickets offer great value for a major international show, as our research shows the average visitor spends more than five hours enjoying Ellerslie.”
