22 November 2013 l NZ Transport Agency - Auckland

Severe congestion on Auckland’s motorways

The NZ Transport Agency says there is severe congestion on Auckland’s Southern and Northern Motorway (State Highway 1) after two serious crashes this afternoon. .

One crash, involving 3 vehicles, has closed two of the three southbound lanes on the Southern Motorway near Mt Wellington.

And on the Northern Motorway, two southbound lanes are closed near the Northcote Road interchange after a crash.

“The crashes are causing heavy congestion and we are advising drivers to delay their journeys until emergency services can safely re-open all lanes,” says the Transport Agency’s National Journeys Manager, Kathryn Musgrave.

“We are working as quickly as possible to have all lanes open and traffic flowing freely.”

All northbound lanes of the motorways remain open, but the Transport Agency asks drivers not to slow when passing the crash scene to avoid any build-up of traffic.
