PCC Ready to Discuss Transmission Gully Link Roads Contract with Nzta’s Preferred Bidder

Porirua City Council Mayor Nick Leggett, has welcomed the announcement by NZTA Chief Executive Geoff Dangerfield, that a consortium has been selected for NZTA to enter into preferred bidder negotiations with for the Transmission Gully Highway project. This paves the way for Porirua City Council to begin discussions with the Wellington Gateway Partnership consortium on a contract to build the city’s link roads to the highway.

“I am very pleased NZTA has been able to reach this decision. The earlier the contract negotiation phase can be concluded, the sooner work on constructing the highway can begin,” says Mayor Leggett.

“My Council is looking forward to starting discussions with the Wellington Gateway Partnership consortium as soon as possible on a contract to build the new roads that will connect our city to the highway via the suburbs of Whitby and Waitangirua.

“Porirua City Council has budgeted $35 million in its Long Term Plan for the Link Roads Project, including land purchases.

“This would not be a public-private partnership arrangement as with the highway itself. Our discussion with Wellington Gateway Partnership will be based on the more common ‘design and construct’ contract type and only covers the link roads. The contract will include all of the work associated with the project except the negotiation and purchase of the land,” Mayor Leggett says.

Porirua City Council’s negotiations will be carried out on conjunction with NZTA’s development of the proposal with Wellington Gateway Partnership, however, the Council is not bound to using Wellington Gateway Partnership if it fails to reach an agreement.

NZTA is working towards awarding the Public Private Partnership contract for the Transmission Gully project by mid-2014. Porirua City Council will make a decision prior to that period about whether it enters in a contract with NZTA’s preferred bidder or seeks bids from other contractors.

Ends.
