The New Entrants

The countdown to Summerdaze is on, with just a few days to go until the Queenstown Lakes District welcomes 2014 with a stellar burst of light, colour and sound.

Special New Year’s Eve celebrations kick off in both Queenstown and Wanaka with free live entertainment for thousands of locals and holidaymakers, culminating in spectacular fireworks on the lakefront at midnight.

In Queenstown, the line-up of live music starts at 8pm with local group Bahip on the main stage at Earnslaw Park, followed by Bird Machine, The Devines and headline act The New Entrants from Christchurch.

Bahip is a new group from Wakatipu High who have been playing together most of this year – their fresh approach will set the crowd rocking. Bird Machine, also from Wakatipu High, is the winner of the recent Battle of the Musos, and the raw energy of Devine will blow your socks off! The New Entrants are described as “dangerously good entertainment”.

For fans of beats, a second stage at the Memorial Gates features a non-stop line-up of top DJs including DJ Asbro, DJ Pops, DJ Hand Solo and DJ Dan Move with DJ Cuz.

Wanaka’s waterfront will also be pulsing to the sound of great local talent. Regional Smokefree Rockquest winners Mainstreet launch the entertainment at 8pm followed by rising local stars Rock Hopper. The headline act, Pistol Knights, will carry on rocking till 1am with their blend of classics and today’s hits.

On the stroke of midnight, dazzling fireworks displays in both towns will ignite the New Year. In Queenstown the pyrotechnics will be staged from a barge in the bay, while on Wanaka they will be based on the foreshore.

The New Year’s Eve festivities are the first events on the Summerdaze calendar that runs throughout January and features more than 40 events for all ages. Customise your summer entertainment from the full programme at www.summerdaze.co.nz
