Refocusing of rescue helicopter service

Refocusing of rescue helicopter service

The Northland Emergency Services Trust has appointed a new General Manager whose role will include streamlining the organisation’s day to day operations, boosting community fundraising efforts, and identifying local ambassadors.

Northland local Vanessa Furze has taken up this newly created position to support NEST’s chief executive Peter Turnbull and his team, allowing them to better service the Northland region by strengthening their focus on rescuing lives, rather than managing flight records and administrative tasks.

Mr Turnbull said Ms Furze key role will be ensuring the organisation runs smoothly by streamlining internal communication channels, improving operating systems, and putting more robust work procedures in place to maximise NEST’s efficiency.

Ms Furze, who was one of more than 150 applicants for the position, will also focus on NEST’s Ambassador Programme, where she will identify and appoint ambassadors throughout the Northland region to represent the Trust at local fundraising activities and other events.

“She will also take an active role in managing the organisation’s fundraising activities in the community, including developing a toolkit to assist community groups when they want to support NEST,” said Mr Turnbull.

“She is excited to be a part of such a vital community organisation and is looking forward to working alongside Northland community groups and key supporters of NEST.”

The appointment is part of significant changes at NEST which saw longstanding chairman John Bain hand over control to deputy chair Paul Ahlers – a change which is now in effect.
